Running 3 centerbacks against a formation that only has one natural striker can easily get defenders out of position, you’ve got to be really disciplined and... Atlanta’s defense ain’t

you’re not getting any of the benefits of playing 3 back if guys are getting free that easily

The 4-3-3 they used earlier this month would’ve been a perfect foil against how NYRB lined up

It clearly wasnt on purpose.

Would have been a clean tackle but because he was getting pulled down from behind, instead of getting the side of the ball he got the top and his foot bounced off the top like a rocket.

Anyone who thinks Garza went studs up on purpose is a fool.

Doesn't really matter if it was on purpose or not.

His studs were up and he hit that dude right in the knee with them.

It does when it's something fluky like your foot taking a bounce off the ball.

So you're saying its not a found because it was an accident?

That's not how this works.

It shouldn’t have been a foul bc it was all caused by a Red Bull player pulling him down.

Much like it isn’t kick catch interference if you are blocked Into the guy

I think it's a red, his studs were up and caught the dude.

It being an accident or dirty doesn't matter. He came over the ball studs up into the other player. It's a dangerous play and was called correctly.

There's a HUGE difference between:

quote:

He came over the ball studs up

and

quote:

His studs came up after rebounding off of the ball

If you can't see the difference, there's really no reasoning with you.

Did his foot go over the ball studs up and then catch the other player in the knee with his studs?

Hypothetical situation/question for kengel2:

Player A (in a red-and-black shirt) and Player N1 (in a white shirt) are playing a long-ball coming toward them. Player N2 (also in a white shirt) is standing close at hand.

As Player A goes up to play the ball, Player N1 undercuts him and Player A begins to flip. As Player A goes topsy-turvy, his boot comes up and kicks player N2 in the face.

Player N2's face is bloodied and has to leave the game. NO FOUL was called on Player N1 for his undercutting of Player A.

Is Player A issued a red card for a high boot to Player N2's face?

I will assume that your answer will be "yes" since your rationale above is a foul is a foul is a foul, it doesn't matter if it was intentional or accidental.

His foot was not studs up until it rebounded off the ball.

So the answer to your question is, no, his foot did not go "over the ball studs up".

Did the player's studs catch the opposing player's knee after rebounding studs-up off the ball? Yes.

I googled "mls officiating controversy" and the 5th entry that popped up was the Wiki entry on Mark Geiger.

Oh look, the Professional Referees Organization defends and affirms every bad call in the AUFC/NYRB match. And if it takes them having to lie to do it then, dammit, that's what they'll do!

*ETA* I'm just to the point now where I assume every goal we score is going to be reviewed and somehow deemed not a goal. It's insane.

Yea not surprised. No sports league ever has the balls to call out bad calls.
