how the frick are chelsea pulling off these ridiculous deals? mata isn't worth 10m more than cesc in any universe...and cesc was actually contributing to his squad when he was sold!

he doesn't exactly have a history of getting great deals...he's overpaid for plenty.

Markets changed. Luiz and Mata had a willing buyer. Barca seemed to want to get rid of Cesc as fast as they could.

Cesc is a slightly odd fit with Mourinho. He doesn't defend, isn't really fast, but he will unlock all those teams that put ten behind the ball. I wonder how he will be accommodated.

He's improved on this a bit with Barca.

I think ole Jose´s losing it, or coming up with a strange and ingenious Maureen 2.0, before which we may be forced to bow.

He's actually regressed in my view. He started out as a DLP, and defended more than he did after 2008, when Wenger moved him into the hole and he flourished. Now when he does defend he is postionally wayward, though his workrate has improved slightly. But when he came up, and for the first three years when he was played in a midfield tandem, he was a typical CM in terms of his defensive responsibilities.

I think he will like Mourinho's counter attacking game, but I honestly don't think he is going to improve his defensive workrate all that much. If Guardiola couldn't improve it, I don't see how Jose can.

Don't see how that is a dig. Mourinho is an incredible manager, certainly better than Wenger at this point.

it seems as if you are ignoring the paragraph preceding.

Haha that is some creative exegesis, I'll admit. Wenger was committed to winning trophies with Cesc using all the youth we developed, but players left. It's obvious that Chelsea was his second choice, considering he went out of his way to mention Arsenal. That reading is at least supported by the text, and not your own myopic bias.

Which he went out of his way to say. I mean, that is a terribly odd thing to say in a press release.

Agreed, which is why I think he made a dig at Wenger in paragraph 3.
