PC Crashes Help!

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 8/8/25 at 9:50 am
I have a very expensive rig and it started crashing while gaming and also when closing a game.

Day to day operation, no blue screen. Gaming blue screen. Actually cascading blue screens. Sometimes takes as many as 4 bluescreen restarts to get back up.

I've done a clean windows install. It is actually worse now.

I've run memtest86. All good.
Furmark 2 to stress the GPU. Fine.
Cooling appears to be fine. No temp over 70 when gaming.
CPU stress tests, all clear. top of the line.
Tried multiple graphics drivers. Same result.
Device manager - nothing wrong in the manager.
I've run the corsair diagnostic results all green.
Even though I have never had dism online health command fix anything. I tried that. Sfc scannow shows no errors.

I assume it is hardware and not software but from the tests, everything works except when gaming.

If it was power, I would think the CPU & GPU tests would have caused it to bluescreen and with Rogue Trader, I can turn the game on and then exit the game. Crash. Yes, I checked integrity of the game and done multiple reintstalls. Yes Owlcat is a buggy developer but the crashing occurs on other games too.

Any ideas on how to figure out which component has gone haywire? I'm probably going to do another complete wipe and start from scratch but I am not optimistic. I think one of the components is the issue but it only glitches out when gaming.

Can someone explain why Arizona is stuck at 53% all night?

God of War PC

Anyone grabbing it? Let the board know if it is a good port or a cash grab port. I've played through twice so I'm not interested in jumping in immediately but I hope it is a decent port and I'll grab it on sale.

Is there any way on a network to lock all PDFs in a folder to one user at a time?

Odd Sound Issues - Samsung Note 8

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 11/24/20 at 10:55 am
My dad got a new landline phone and when he calls, the volume is drastically lower. This is 100% repeatable.

It only happens on my cell phone. When he calls other phones, volume is normal.

All calls from other numbers have normal volume. Any clue what the heck is causing this?

Hidden Gems - Nobody Bought Edition

This will be my last attempt to push some folks to play 3 games that nobody played. In the middle of a Portia play through and still upset that this game tanked at the store.

My Time at Portia - Stardew 2.0. Straight up stole all aspects of Stardew and made it better with tremendous quality of life additions as you level up. Instead of farming, this game focuses on workshop equipment and some farming but you don't need to touch farming. Much longer story, better combat, much better quality of life upgrades. If you didn't mind Stardew graphics don't let the cartoon graphics stop you from playing Portia. I would be surprised if most people who loved Stardew didn't end up loving this one. Easy 80+ hours. Heck, you can have that much just in year 1. You can probably put 200 hours if you have the time setting slowed. My one beef is that it is too chill. I liked rushing the beat the clock in Stardew. In Portia, you just wake up in your bed with no penalty.

Pathfinder Kingmaker - Simply the best CRPG since Baldur's Gate II. Unfortunately the game was released in a shambles so the reviews destroyed it. 4 or 5 months after release, the patches fixed the bugs and they added several quality of life changes that made the core play better. If you like CRPG, I don't understand why you haven't given this one a shot. Great game and cheap as hell anytime steam has a sale. 100+ hours. I think I had 150 but I do every single quest and explore every inch of the map.

Bard's Tale IV - This one isn't for everyone. Some folks don't like the grid based combat but having played the old Bard's Tale games, I think they did a fine job with this spiritual successor to the old franchise. What the screwed up was releasing the game a month or two early. I didn't have any problems with the initial release, but plenty of folks had some graphical issues. I loved the game and the Gaelic score. Loved all of the puzzles and some were actually tough to figure out. The bugs were fixed a few months after release and I think they issued a Director's Cut with additional quality of life features but haven't gotten around to playing it again. I think they state 40+ hours but I put in 80. Twice. I'l probably try out the director's cut before all of the big releases late in the year.

What you got? What are some great games that you don't see anyone playing or talking about?
Ridiculously cheap on Steam for the Autumn sale.

It was a buggy mess when it came out but if you like CRPGs you MUST get this one. The devs busted their arse to fix the game and I think they did an amazing job.

125+ hours and I did 100% completion run with no bugs. Worth the $16 bucks. Easily my favorite CRPG since Baldur's Gate 2.

I just picked up Divinity Original Sin 2 last week. It's been good so far. Waiting for the Holidays to really dig in.

For some reason I avoid CRPGs when they come out, have zero interest, finally break down and buy them and thoroughly enjoy the games.

Grabbed a few games in the under $10 sale that I might never play. The Surge and Graveyard Keeper.
Please explain to me why Trump asking for Biden to be investigated is illegal / unethical but Obama investigating Trump during the campaign was fine. Oh and once nothing was found on the FISA calls, please explain why the folks on the calls were unmasked and released to multiple departments.

Why is one investigation grounds for impeachment yet the other applauded by liberals?

What are you playing if the power stays on?

Bought a pile of games during the Steam sale...

But....

Witcher Thronebreaker made me want to stop playing it and start playing Witcher 3.

Thronebreaker was fun but it made me want to play Witcher again.

What are you going to be playing?

I need to finish up Prey.

Then I might give Borderlands 2 VR another try. If I can't get my VR legs I might give Spiderman or Persona 5 a look.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 6/3/19 at 3:33 pm
I'm a wee bit late to the party. I had just bought a PS4 when this came out so I had a huge backlog and put this away for a nice rainy day. With the lull in games I want to play, I finally dove in.

Really great game but...

Do the monster level up with the player and maybe even once you visit certain areas?

The pain in the arse bird by the hunting lodge just became borderline unkillable after my trip to Meridian.

Instead of firing one lightning bolt then taking time to fire another, it fires one after the other. Oh and once downed, it can one hit me.

It was a pain in the arse but it now seems like my game switched to very hard even though it is still on normal.

Massive ramp up in difficulty. I was thinking it might be because I hit level 30, went to Meridian or maybe even because I killed one of those big arse Thunder dudes.

I'm not a huge fan of level scaling monsters. I prefer zones with increasing difficulty. This zone was a nice increase with the bird initially kicking my arse until I learned how to kill it. Now the damn thing ramped up to full beast mode.

3 attempts and it seems to hit much harder and fires the bolts much much faster. Just seems odd.

My Time in Portia - Stardew Clone

Anyone play this yet?

Looks like a Stardew clone but with much more depth / RPG elements. Instead of a farm, you build a workshop with some farming and animals.

Whatcha playing?

I finished up on Resident Evil 2.

With Metro about to drop, I guess I finally need to play the first 2 and for 8 bucks, the price is right. So I will be playing those until the new game drops.

Wall vs Fence

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 2/1/19 at 12:52 pm
Would some liberals explain to me why a fence is ok but not a wall? How is a wall immoral but a fence is not?

Is a fence going to work better than a wall? If you believe yes, please explain. If a wall is a waste of money, how is a fence not an even bigger waste of money?

Please in detail explain why Dems were ok with $25 billion a few years ago and yet now they aren't.

Just want to hear your explanation for those simple details.

Game Ending Save Corruptions

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 1/7/19 at 8:39 am
I've been playing Don't Starve Shipwrecked for a few weeks. I think I was up to about Day 200 as the dry season ended. I was in the Volcano for the end of the dry season. When I exited the volcano, the dry season reset. I still had all the items from the dry season, but the date was pushed back to the start of the dry season. I went through the dry season again, same thing happened. Anyone who has played, knows the dry season sucks. You would not want it to be Ground Hog Day during the dry season. End of game.

I also had about a 75% run of Dragon Age Origins end because I sold every single item to the same vendor to get the bonus gold and it killed my save file about 75% in.

What are your game ending save file corruption tales of woe?

Weekly I Hate Cox Cable Thread

Internet out. They said there was an outrage. They then said it was all fixed. Still out. They evidently took away the ability for their tech to send a trend / outtage report to the engineers. So it is down but the engineers believe they fixed it.

Earliest appointment to check my line is Wednesday.

Borderlands 2 PSVR

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 10/9/18 at 8:30 am
Looks like I can dust off the PSVR.

Borderlands 2 is coming on December 14th.

There are changes to the game which might be a downer for some folks. No multiplayer.

I'll wait for reviews, but this does have my interest.

Bard's Tale Barrows Deep

Posted by TigerMyth36 on 9/28/18 at 6:16 am
I'm older than dirt so I was around for Bard's Tale 1-3. Bard's Tale 3 was fun but hard work. You absolutely had to break out the graph paper and mark every step you took. Spin traps plus darkness spells made it impossible to make progress without the old graph paper.

Last weekend when the new game came out it got skewered for bugs and slow frame rates. I've been watching Cohhcarnage stream it all week and finally decided to jump in.

I think it is lots of fun but the grid / turn based combat isn't for everyone. I like the combat which is a modern take on the older games turn based combat.

A patch came out last Friday and there will be another one tomorrow.

Damn shame they released it when they did. A couple more weeks or at most a month and the game would have been good to go. As it is, none of the bugs I saw were game breaking. More annoyances. Passives not stacking damage correctly. Things like that. No inventory sorting which should be in the patch tomorrow.

I would love to hear the reasons why a game is released when it is released. I guess a month from now, they figured the competition would be too steep. Now it is going to be real hard to get folks who have never played Bard's tale to give this one a look after they read all of the negative crap on steam.

Shame they rushed it. I'm having a blast. I have the day off today and I played all damn night last night.
