Regrettably, you can't underestimate them.
The mindset is not unlike that of any old, bitter person. And old, bitter people never run out of energy when they find an object to complain about. In fact, they tend to regress into being more bitter and mean-spirited... and that is even more concerning. Because that appears to be the trajectory of a substantial portion of the population, and that bodes poorly for the country.
I live in NYC and people just tend to go about their day without thinking until someone puts some form of Trump related stimulus in front of them (whatever the newest news or rumors)... Then, on cue, they angrily parrot whatever talking points they've been conditioned to accept by the media. They're like robots and it's almost automatic for them. They don't tire of it... they just run the program in their mind and their mouths start moving.
I don't see this changing, and I don't see the media changing their messaging anytime soon. Both for political reasons and monetary (trying to drive clicks), they're going to continue criticizing him and looking for a new narrative to hype when the current one loses momentum.
I'm not even blindly pro-Trump like some on here and would prefer to not paint the other side with a broad brush, calling them all sky screamers and the like (though it can be funny). I just find the concerted effort of the media-- which is fueled in no small part by factions of the FBI / intel community-- to manipulate public opinion against Trump in such a demonstrably hateful way to be alarming. And it's equally alarming how many people don't see this, accept it as fine, and/or don't see the irony of acting hatefully and irrationally towards Trump while accusing him of being hateful.
I'm digressing now, but I don't see how this is going to change much in the coming years. I think (with the benefit of hindsight) Trump should have come in guns blazing, identified his enemies and aggressively purged as many of them as possible from the get go, then started making changes. His press coverage wouldn't have been worse than it was anyway, and it would've given him greater ability to move forward and create positive momentum. Because he didn't do this, his enemies have been able to cover some of their tracks and ensnare him in this political game which is going to take a long time to play out... and makes anyone who would openly support Trump hesitant to get too close-- lest they be dragged into having a file opened on them.
In short, his enemies control a lot of the means to incite public anger against him. And they are his enemies and will not accept the changes he wishes to make. I hate to say many people will fall for it (everyone is entitled to their opinion), but many people are going to accept the "news" that's being published. So, yeah, expect the hate to continue.
