Toyota and Mazda announced recently they’ll invest north of $1.6 billion dollars to build a new factory and create over 4,000 good-paying jobs in Limestone County, Alabama. This only increases the state’s vehicle production: In 2016, Alabama assembled over one million vehicles employing over 40,000 employees.

Today, Alabama has the third most technical workforce in the United States with about 17 percent of the workforce in science, technology, and engineering, according to a Bloomberg analysis. Aerojet-Rocketdyne announced last year they were leaving California and moving to Alabama; it will cost us 1,100 jobs and a company who has been here since the 1950s.

As the state legislature returns to Sacramento for a new session, my hope is that they’ll choose to be less like themselves — and more like Alabama. The future of our state’s small and mid-sized businesses (not to mention the people they employ) depends on it.

California has the 8th largest economy in the world by itself.
It leads all states in food production, high tech, military weaponry and shipping.

Alabama has a great CFB team.

''both are equivalent to third world countries''
Name a third world country that has the 8th highest GDP and the biggest, most advanced tech industries in the world.

California has Nation's highest poverty rate

quote:

This week, State Assembly Republican Leader Chad Mayes called poverty California’s No. 1 priority during a forum of legislative leaders in Sacramento.

Mayes, who represents parts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, claimed the state’s poverty rate is higher than any state in the nation when considering factors such as cost-of-living.

"If you look at the official poverty measure in California, we’re about average with the rest of the country," Mayes said. "But if you use the supplemental poverty measure, we are in the lead. We have the highest poverty rate in the nation -- higher than New Mexico, higher than any of the southern states, Louisiana, Alabama, higher than Idaho."

California republicans are just pissed because Dems took back the state house, shut obstructionist republicans out and saved the state from the road to bankruptcy republicans had it on.
The only factor that is a problem is housing is extremely expensive along the coast. That skews the supplemental poverty figures because the areas where real estate is very high are the highest income areas. Where wages are lower in the desert, the central valley and NE real estate is far more affordable. An example is Barstow where the average house sells for just 93K.

Truth is I was raised in Georgia, but I was born in Tuscaloosa, so was both of my parents.
I just take exception to some of the attitudes in my home region. I've lived in Alabama, Pa. Colorado, SC, NC and briefly in Cal.
None are bad states if you're in an area that suits you and your living conditions are acceptable.
