quote:

A large percentage of Medicaid recipients are children of lower income types on the state CHIP programs whose parents have employer paid insurance but adding the kids makes the contributions very expensive because the employer is not kicking in for the dependents.

Government stats show CHIP as less than 10% of overall Medicaid enrollment. Do you have different numbers? LINK

If the parents have employer paid insurance, they are already meeting work requirements. Children aren't going to be required to meet work requirements for Medicaid or CHIP so how is this statement relevant?

Also, the proposed work requirements are laughably lax. States could automatically exempt everyone with children. Disabled and pregnant people are also exempt, though they might have to suffer the inconvenience of filling out an exemption form. And the requirement is 80 hours per month. These are the "harsh" work requirements people are crying about.

Effective January 1, 2029, the reconciliation bill’s proposal would require states to deny coverage to people applying for Medicaid if they are not already working (or participating in another qualifying activity) at least 80 hours per month, as well as terminate Medicaid for people already enrolled if they cannot document that they are meeting work requirements. The proposal applies to Medicaid expansion group enrollees aged 19 to 64 — the entire age range of the expansion group.[4] The proposal says it would exempt caregivers of dependent children, people with disabilities, people who are pregnant, and several other groups.
