The friday before my fiancé told me she was leaving me for another guy. I was devastated. After talking to my boss I got the week off and spent Sunday and Monday in a drunk depressed stupor. That Tuesday morning my mom calls me to turn on the tv. About two hours later my mom calls me again to tell me my sister was in a coma and to head to the hospital. Luckily, they figured out she was a diabetic and once they gave her insulin she came out of it. I spent the next two days next to her hospital bed feeling like my whole world was ending. Worst week of my life.

I was 12 blocks uptown from the WTC. I could see it from my loft's roof. The first plane went right over my building as I was getting ready for work. I thought it was a commuter plane with engine trouble because I heard the fans rattling. I stopped and listened and then heard a very low distant boom.

My elevator operator banged on the doors saying a plane just hit the WTC. I ran up one flight to 12th floor and roof. Twisted my ankle gaping at the smoking hole in Tower One.

The rest was televised.

I had just left the gym on the way to work. Heard on the radio that a plane had flown into the tower. Guy on radio kind of blew it off as as idiot private pilot. shite got real before I got to work. Stopped in the waiting room lobby and watched the second plane fly into the second tower. Didn't get much work done that day.

I was in Rio de Janeiro. We heard a plane hit the tower but the thought was it was a Cessna. I had to catch a flight to Caracas so I went to the airport and checked in. TV’s were on but I didn’t pay much attention because I don’t speak Portuguese. Got on the flight to Caracas and arrive around midnight. Taxi driver told me what happened and that I needed to call my company as they were looking for me. I was one of 6 unaccounted for employees! Stayed up a while watching the news then. Just surreal to see that happen. Glad I didn’t get to watch TV all day. Flew to Puerto La Cruz the next day and had to stay there extra days until I could get back to the US.

I was at work.

Chatting with someone online...they said...oh wow, a plane crash in NYC. Looks like a building is on fire. Oh shite...looks like some sort of attack.

I went home. By the time I got home, I saw the second plane hit.

1 hour later, we were told to come get our kids from school.

I was just getting ready to go under the knife for knee surgery. Everything was breaking that morning. Got home and was able to get all the info and pass along to my co-workers that were in the office. Amazingly at that time I was watching MSNBC for my news!
The eerie thing was when they shut down all flights- the fact there were no planes at night was something we will probably never see again!
