I also got a letter out of no where last year, for 2011. I owed more. I disagree but it was a trivial amount so why argue? The state was also on it like white on rice because my state is broker than a crack whore.

My SO got one that said she owed $1,000.
Took it to a tax preparer and not only did she not owe money, they owed us $1,500 (enough to fix the a/c on her car).
Seriously, let your accountant deal with it. But what is the title of the letter? (It sounds like the first one of three they send before they get really irate and do bad things)
PS--Send them $1.00 to keep the emails coming.

I really did get an IRS letter I owed more and it was unusual. I have it in a box or I would redact and post it.
