All animals are equal. Some animals...
...are just more equal than others.
My belief is that what Trump was banking on (as well as many of his supporters) was that many of the GOP in Congress were going along with the tide of the swamp only because there was no alternative. The hope was that if a red wave offering a better route, one hopefully leading down a more conservative path, came along that enough would not just take to that path but also cling to it and reinforce it for future generations.
Instead what we saw were swamp creatures like Mitch and Lindsey who supported Trump only as long as they thought he was going to be able to retain power. Once they thought that might be coming to an end (or thought they could gain a better deal by facilitating that end) they switched loyalties and sank back into their murky, swampy waters.
Trump himself is partially to blame for a lot. He could have forced declassifications on all of this Russia-gate bullshite long ago. He didn't. Same with the spygate information. Same with a host of other things.
If another candidate of independent ilk ever wins the Presidency again, they should learn a big lesson from this and appoint people they personally trust to these top intel positions to personally run the declassifications even if it means hand-walking it themselves to the President to sign off on.
