If tweet fails to load, click here. California’s energy disaster is finally getting real scrutiny from mainstream media — and it’s turning into Gavin Newsom’s nightmare.
My latest: “5 Big Energy Stories – 4.6.2026: CBS’s California Dreamin’ Turns Into Newsom’s Nightmare” details the story.
Key highlights:
CBS News California’s six-month investigation blows up Newsom's “price gouging” narrative.
California’s sky-high gas prices (over $6/gal) and diesel spikes (now $7.67 statewide, $8+ in San Francisco) are driven by crushing taxes, regulations, environmental mandates, a special fuel blend, and two refinery closures that slashed capacity nearly 20%. No evidence of illegal gouging after years of accusations.
60 Minutes devotes a big chunk of airtime to Newsom’s high-speed rail boondoggle — called the nation’s biggest single boondoggle in 16 years. Even includes a 2010 Newsom promo clip. The New York Post piled on too.
Diesel prices in CA doubled in weeks, far outpacing the national average. No pipelines, heavy reliance on imports by ship/rail/truck, and aggressive anti-fossil fuel policies have left the state dangerously exposed — a self-inflicted national security risk.
Under new direction from Bari Weiss, CBS is delivering straight, fact-based reporting on these failures instead of propaganda. It’s costing them some “woke” viewers but earning respect from people hungry for reality.
California’s mismanagement under Newsom is being exposed in real time. The #StraitofHormuz closure is hitting all Americans in the pocketbook, but the pain is much worse in California thanks to Newsom's policies.
This kind of accountability journalism is long overdue.
