The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), follows the Russian Patriarch Kirill (Cyril in English). He is a close personal ally of Putin, and he proclaimed Putin’s rule rule as "a miracle of God." According to Putin, Kirill's father baptized him. During his tenure as Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus', Kirill has brought the Russian Orthodox Church closer to the Russian state. Kirill was a KGB agent like Putin. He fully supports the invasion. He has given two church awards to Russian rulers of occupied Crimea.
Ok, so there’s a motive. But how true is it?
quote:
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) are undoubtedly over sensitive to Russian threats to an independent Ukraine. As of 23 February 2023, the SSU has investigated nearly 60 criminal cases brought against pro-Russian UOC-MP clergy; over 350 church buildings and 850 persons linked to the church have been subject to thorough checks and inspections. Ukrainian courts have handed down seven guilty verdicts.
What did the church/clergy do to warrant this outside of what is listed above?

Is there overreach? Of course. But Kirill’s clergy is loyal to the goal of a Russian dominated Ukraine. By definition, for a Ukrainian this is traitorous.
Understood, but we have people in this country who have used their position in government to make their families and friends rich. Even going so far as to get prosecutors in other countries fired for daring to look into matters regarding their children.

I hear you and mostly agree. I am a social, economic, small government, individual rights, and traditional liberal, conservative. I’m a Christian and American patriot that believes in private property.
First I acknowledge that all people are sinners and no human institution is perfect.
Second, I have no personal preference for the Ukrainian people over any other, and my loyalty is to my country. I also acknowledge that all governments are corrupt, and think Ukraine’s is better than most 3rd World shite holes, but below most Western nations.
3-But I am anti-Russian, Communist China, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, etc. This group is actively anti-American.
4-Russia is the evil agent of this war, not Ukraine, NATO, the EU, or corrupt American politicians. They have invaded several neighbors, and Ukraine twice. Ukraine is not a threat even if they join he EU and/or NATO.
5-America would be better off bleeding Russia with EU economic assistance and Ukrainian blood.
6-This is one of those rare instances where right and national interests are joined.
7-I hope Ukraine gains its national territory back, and maintains the freedom to decide its own fate.
8-I hope for the Russian people that they embrace Western political culture and reject their strong man worship. Unfortunately, this is not likely.

Wildly inaccurate. The Russian orthodox church is primarily Russian. There are a number of branches of Orthodoxy that aren't Russian at all
