The government is to impose a UK-wide pre-9pm ban on TV adverts for food high in sugar, salt and fat.

Products affected include chocolate, burgers, soft drinks, cakes, sweets, ice cream, biscuits, sweetened juices, crisps, chips and pizzas.

There will also be new rules on online promotion, but firms selling junk food will still be able to run websites.

A total ban on online adverts was proposed last year, but this has been scaled back after consultation.

From the end of next year, TV adverts for junk food - also including breakfast cereals, yoghurts, ready meals, chicken nuggets and battered fish - will be allowed only between 9pm and 5.30am.

Commercials for "less healthy" meals out will also not be shown outside this period.

The rules will apply during live and on-demand programmes and will not affect companies with fewer than 250 employees, such as local curry houses, pizzerias and sweet-makers.

As long as they put that “plant-based meat” horseshite that has more chemicals than a periodic table on it, then I’m okay with it.

Not really, but frick that nasty stuff.

How much tv are kids and teens watching these days? Seems like everyone is on their phone watching TikToks or streaming.

Even if removing the ads are effective for those that might see them, I'm not sure this will have much of an impact based on teen viewing habits.

Brilliant! Now they should put up a sign on the 18th tee box that says: 'BEER IS BAD FOR YOU!'
That should work.

The real UK in Lexington endorses corn based products such as Woodford Reserve and Blantons.

Right idea, wrong execution. As is with most government initiatives.

I’ve always said that if we want to make headway to fix the healthcare system, socialism isn’t the way to go.

Fix our diet and exercise habits. This is a very shitty effort to do so.

Maybe they can introduce toothpaste and dental floss to the public while they're at it.
