If this happened off school premises as someone mentioned then it should be a purely criminal matter and the school should have zero say in how the law is enforced and not try to use any form of school punishment to harbor these thugs from criminal prosecution.

You’d think, but we’ve seen videos of dozens and dozens similar incidents where teachers, faculty, and even SROs, either by choice or policy, do absolutely nothing except wait for the police.
