Not sure if anyone mentioned earlier, but as a 22 year veteran of the Marine Corps I worked directly on the Base Reduction (BRAC) of 94. My command briefed Sens Nunn and Newt in Atlanta to save a few bases in Ga. Need to look at where are those planes and whose district they are being built in.

Cancel the F35 and use developed technologies on the 6th gen. Drop the VSTOL requirement and develop naval and air force variant. A similar incident occurred with the Seawolf class SSN. High cost and heavy maintenence killed it but the lessons learned and technology would later show up in the Virginia class which was developed under budget and ahead of schedule. Work the next aircraft in the mold of the Virginia. I believe we will come out better in long run.
