The old bathroom was more fitting IMO.

In high Art Deco style? That is an anachronism.

IMO, the wall-to-ceiling marble and gold plated fixtures are perhaps over the top. Be that as it may, it is a style certainly reminiscent of the grandeur seen in Neoclassical design.

During the 18th Century, many government buildings in Washington D.C. — including the White House — were often built in the Neoclassical style. These design elements were incorporated as a way for the emerging Republic to pay homage to their Greek and Roman forebears.

These designs likewise were meant to suggest that the United States was simply a continuation of the self governing political ideals championed by many Greek City States and the later Roman Republic. The word “Republic” itself — which in Latin loosely translates to “a public affair” — affected such architectural trends.

These Neoclassical designs were not meant to symbolize the grandeur and wealth of the ruling class but instead were meant to symbolize the pride and admiration the citizens had in their system of governance itself. In other words, these stately buildings were meant to symbolize the high ideals of the small “r” republican form of government that the American people adopted from Classical antiquity.
