And finally, I would say that, you know, we are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while, I think. It's probably a good thing. We're the ones who invented the casting couch, taking advantage of sweet Midwestern teenage girls who dreamed of stardom and the silver screen and used them for our own sexual gratification; while the rest of the country had banned child labour, we gave drugs to teenagers to keep them working long hours and made them addicts for life like Judy Garland.
And when it was just being whispered, we openly talked about how prostitution in the industry, sex rings and of course sex for a role...as Marilyn Monroe famously said after she signed a huge MGM contract..."now I won't have to get on my knees for BJ's anymore."....We were shocked when one of our greatest directing talents had to flee to Europe because of statutory rape...that's how out of touch we are.
And we, you know, we bring up subjects, we are the ones—this Academy, this group of people who made pedophilia normal...and ruined the lives of many child actors who later committed suicide. I'm proud to be a part of this Academy, proud to be part of this community which glorifies drugs abuse, pedophilia and rape and proud to be out of touch. And I thank you so much for this.

Weinstein is a smart guy too....doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite.

why do you think trump and Hillary trotted out celebrities?
Because most people are stupid. People buy US Weekly and in touch and all that b******* because they like to keep up with celebrity lifestyles. It's because most people are idiotic. People in Hollywood are just extensions of that.
I'm not making excuses for anyone here I'm just saying you're blaming one side of the coin but not the other.

that's my point. but their opinions are treated as invalid while a comedian famous for telling jokes, his opinions based on no expertise of any kind are received as magnificent, inspiring, etc.
I don't think it's as easy as that. I definitely think that too many people listen to what celebrities have to say about things that aren't relative to their field but some of them are also incredibly bright.
Many of them also live in this country and are aware of the problems that we face. But if your point is that they have too much clout or people listen to them too much, the only people to blame for the people that make up this entire country.
Simply blaming Hollywood is a fallacy because they wouldn't be there if there wasn't an audience.
You can honestly say the same thing about almost every "reporter" now. They're all just pseudo celebrities who give editorials instead of giving us the news.
And again on this front we are all to blame and very specifically Mega corporations that bought the news to Pedal things that help their agenda.
Most people on this board don't want to admit it but the Press mostly pedals agendas that are relative to business interests. One of the wonderful things about the free market

sounds a little dramatic, but for all the "division" in America, I see a common enemy. I can empathize with black people when cam newton gets wrecked for a harmless comment but then the woman to whom it was directed, they circle the wagons to protect her...that she was the only female reporter in the room wasn't cam's fault...those decisions are made by the people that attacked him for said comments.
the media/Hollywood...total joke.
That isn't a little dramatic that is very dramatic and a somewhat dangerous line of thinking. Thinking of fellow humans as the enemy is the enemy

Cool. You're starting to drift away from my point a little bit. It doesn't seem like you agree when you start immediately pointing out what you think the other side or your enemy said

Which one? We don't have free markets. We have a government hybrid, which is why the press and govt prop it up

dangerous?
is it dangerous to work up a bunch of anger and resentment based on a total lie and then one guy goes and shoots up a church and another guy starts assassinating cops in dallas?
they are the enemy

I don't know I was going to ask you the same question since you've been on and on all day about something and calling people the enemy.
One guy shoots up cops in Dallas and you're overreacting is the exact same overreaction from a few black people getting shot and everyone going nuts. I don't know how to explain that to you anymore clearly. You're getting mad at the same line of thinking that you are currently using. It's absurd. Grow up.
Self-awareness is not a strong suit of conservative-minded people.

You can say things that are true without it being angry. It’s not just the black guy in Dallas, it’s the white kid in South Carolina who shot up a black church by his own admission he was pissed about intense rhetoric from mainstream news and alternative news outlets. They stir shite up. It would be nice if they cut the shite.
Just look at the reaction to the election. People have lost their shite because it’s manufactured hysteria. For christ’s sake people were crying. That’s not emotionally stable behavior. Not saying they’re all going to go shoot up a church, but that was such a common sight. Ridiculous

how on earth did you get that from what he said? they are wealthy and have the luxury to care about other peoples problems. he's happy he can amplify the voices of the less fortunate.
just a weird thing to hate tbh.
