He should have been purged when he got the dui. It rustles my jimmies that we dont take this crime seriously, as say attempted homocide.

people need to:

1) take responsibility for their frickups. does he have someone else he wants shitcanned instead of him?

2) pay attention to how the military works. Getting pujt out before 20 can mean you don't get shite

3) stop whining about their sacrifice. You were paid for what you did. So STFU.

Trust me, it's taken more seriously in the military than it is anywhere else in society. It's a career killer, as you can see by the OP.

Interesting how he didn't lose rank but we all know when enlisted get one we do.

I wonder how much of officer frick ups get swept under the rug.

How exactly does/should this fact enter into the conversation?

In retrospect, he probably should have gotten out after he was given his GOMAR (should have been locally filed - apparently it went into his permanent file). Instead he faithfully labored away (quite well) and felt his record as a whole should have been considered.

It wasn't.

Meanwhile, a mediocre officer (more than likely) with no disciplinary actions was retained. And that is our system.

I've never heard of an officer getting demoted. They either get shown the door or are never going to pick up any more rank.

A lot. But we enlisted rarely get to see what happens to officers that screw up. At least in the Marine Corps that's how it worked. And if you asked what happened to an officer after he got in trouble you got told to STFU and mind your business.

Unless convicted of a felony and confined to the Disciplinary Barracks, an officer is rarely reduced. If reduced his/her career is over and they are separated.

Different methodologies.

He's a major now so that means he was probably a LT/Capt combat arms officer around the 04-08 timeframe. Lots of transgressions were overlooked back then. I'm living proof of that.

Black Majors being cut at a disproportionate rate.
