Alright, Let me first say that I apologize for coming across like a dick..
But, This situation I deal with a lot from being in the Biz awhile..
It's one thing I stress to my clients b/c it's something that has happened to me as well as many other people...
Glad you kid is ok.. I have 4 ...I'll be a nervous frickin wreck when they all start driving..
Also let me ask you this.. Who's your insurance Co.? and did the kid go to Hospital?
B/c I've had many of my companies pay clients the max of their UM no questions really asked..
Mainly b/c they'll attempt to sue the other driver..
Again Appogize... Try to understand that my grumpiness comes from the aggravation of dealing with this a lot

Thanks.

You're right, my first priority was my son. Glad he was ok, first and foremost.

The insurance company was Alfa. Since my son was not injured and did not go to the hospital, my uninsured motorists coverage would not come into play.

Sorry for your troubles. Sincerely glad your son was okay. And the probable illegals.

You have to get uninsured motorists added to your policy, though. I guess I don't see the ethnic/immigration angle here. It could have been hoodrats or trailer trash.

I already have uninsured motorists coverage - but that is for bodily injury. I did not have collision, which is essentially uninsured motorists coverage for property damage (my car).

The immigration angle is that these guys were not Americans. They did not have drivers licenses or insurance as mandated by law. As I previously stated, I have no problem with immigrants who come to the USA in search of a better life if they intend to become Americans. I expect them to learn and follow the laws throughout this process. These guys seemed to have no intention of doing so... at a minimum, not the "following the laws" part.

Just to be clear, you suspect that they are illegal aliens but have not verified that. And you guess that they are not legal residents because of their language issues.

I used to work with a Russian American programmer who would suddenly lose his command of the English language when he got in trouble at work.

Also, wouldn't amnesty actually make the situation better by making them citizens eligible for a license and car insurance?

Just to be clear, I love a good argument. Not a slap fight, but one with logical stances and all, with debate and counterpoints. I often learn new viewpoints and perspectives.

On the other hand, I realize a brick wall when I have run into it and this is an obvious one. I appreciate the finer point of what you are trying to say, and the fact that you are trying to put a knife edge on what is really a blunt force obvious argument. I guess you had to have been at the scene - these guys were deliberately non-communicative and had no ID whatsoever.

C'mon... how many people that you know who populate moving vehicles HAVE NO IDENTIFICATION whatsoever? I know that Americans aren't normally required to produce ID documents on demand but you use them enough in every day life that normal people have them. Certainly, legal drivers have them - they are required to operate a vehicle. So you can make a fine point if you like, but IN THE BEST CASE the driver was a criminal. Twice over with no license or insurance.

And finally, I spoke with the city Chief of Police, a good friend. He has infinitely more resources than I do to determine such information. His investigative guys have not been able to verify their citizenship. At this point, I think it is a reasonable assumption to go with.

PS - you mentioned language issues. You're dang right I have a problem with that... to repeat, you want to become an American? Make an attempt to join and learn the culture. That includes the language in which our transportation system is dependent upon.
