Very few in our society self-educate during or after HS or college. I have a friend who believes in the sanctity of almost all government entities. He concedes a few individual bad apples exist but that there is no concerted move to a totalitarian type of state at a macro scale. We were debating yesterday and I reminded him that his perspective is not grounded on any in-depth research of prior societal movements to authoritarian rule. That his “knowledge” comes from a condensed summary (Germany was bad-nazis, Russia was bad-communists)that he learned from a HS teacher and Hollywood movies. He doesn’t believe anything like that could happen here in America.

I can’t argue with a guy who has such a shallow understanding of how these societies were conditioned over 10-20 years to accept the boot. That it didn’t occur overnight or even in a 1 year span. Ii just recommended that he read some books on the Bolshevik and Nazi rise to power as a starting point if he wants to see how it has happened in the past and to see if after that, he can draw any parallels to what is happening today.

Good meaning but way under informed people like my friend will be the death nail to this nation. They will not fight what they are blind to see.
