if i want to give what I paid for (with money I earned and paid tax on) to my kids, I should be able to without them getting screwed over by even more taxes.
There would be no “even more taxes” under my proposal. Taxes upon your death would be much higher, but taxes during your lifetime, on your earnings, would be much less.

We're working for a lot of things including society at large. Tax revenues need to go up substantially in the future. Where that should come from and how we get there is where the debate is. I know one thing for sure though. We aren't going to get there by trying to squeeze more juice out of the working poor.
What a bizarre post, and disconnected from reality. The poor aren’t paying income tax. And why do tax revenues have to go up substantially in the future? If we grow our citizenry we would need to.

quote:there's some kinda failure to communicate. I pay for an asset with after tax income. I die and will it to my son who must pay additional tax for the privilege of receiving something I've already paid for with after tax money. In what world is this not double taxation. If I keep it i owe no additional taxes but if I croak suddenly there is some magical new tax liability. frick that
