But to imply everything would be just hunkey dorey without fedgov is ridiculous.

Which services do you think fedgov provides that we couldnt do without?

I think military and disaster relief are the only two I can think of.

Maybe air traffic control and infrastructure support for major projects, but theres really no need for them to be the sole provider of such things.

What he said is completely correct. The basic services one needs on a daily basis are generally provided by your municipal, county and state governments.

Ok... so, let's eliminate the interstate road-ways, they are all federally funded. let's eliminate ATF and DHS and ICE -- all arms of the fedgov.

Let's see how your everyday life would go on normally on a daily basis.

And while we're at it, let's consider eliminating the EPA all together... no need to have any type of environmental enforcement on clean water.

Look, I'm not saying it is an end of the world scenario if there is another shutdown.

I do think the entire thing is preposterous -- a country with our abilities can't even come together in a room and decide if we're going to pay our own bills or not? Nah, we'll just shut down for awhile and we'll all just take a few days off.

This entire thing is bullshite on both sides of the political spectrum.

But to say your life won't be impacted if there was no federal government is the very definition of short-sightedness.

Well to be clear, interstates are partially federally funded, and part of that is because they bribed the states to lower their drinking age to get more funding. There is no reason why states cant fund interstates on their own.

Also, DHS is an incredibly bloated agency. Its not hard to imagine how this country operated prior to 2001 without it.

ETA: EPA, yeah I dont see anything of use that they have ever done on a personal basis or in my professional life as an engineer.
