Too many roads and bridges in dire need of repair in the US to waste money on a bridge with no value. Now if they start shipping their women folk to eastern Siberia we can talk.

Yes, but it's buildingd a bridge from nothing to nothing - barren Alaska to barren Siberia. And Russias trains use a different size rail - so even freight trains would be a pain in the arse.
