To be fair, this was portrayed in The Last of Us. The worshipers themselves were largely good people.

It was the leaders of the church who were portrayed as self-serving, power-hungry, despicable individuals who were using fear and the Bible to control people for their own personal pleasures and benefit.

But they do certainly tend to just pick on Christianity. Why not criticize their beloved Scientology, also?
