The humor in Donald Trump saying "Thank you for your attention to this matter" often comes from the contrast between his typical speaking style and the formality of that particular phrase. Here's why it can be perceived as funny:
* Informal vs. Formal: Trump's rhetoric is generally characterized by a highly informal, conversational, and often blunt style. He frequently uses simple language, repetition, hyperbole, and direct address, often sounding more like he's having a casual chat or a rally speech than delivering a formal statement. The phrase "Thank you for your attention to this matter" is a very formal, almost bureaucratic or corporate closing.
* Unexpected Politeness/Bureaucracy: Given his often aggressive or unconventional communication, suddenly ending a statement with such a polite and procedural phrase can be jarring and unexpected. It's the kind of phrase you'd expect in a formal letter, an email from HR, or a government memo, not necessarily from a figure known for their unfiltered pronouncements.
* Contextual Irony: The humor is amplified when the "matter" in question is something highly contentious, outrageous, or personal, making the formal closing feel ironically understated or out of place. It can come across as a sarcastic dismissal or a mock-serious attempt to lend gravity to something that might not inherently warrant it in his usual style.
* Memeification and Repetition: Like many of Trump's unique verbal tics, this phrase has been picked up and amplified by the internet and popular culture, becoming a recognizable meme. This repetition in humorous contexts further solidifies its comedic value.
Essentially, the humor derives from the incongruity between the speaker's established persona and the sudden, uncharacteristic adoption of a formal idiom. It highlights the perceived "un-Trump-like" nature of the phrase, making it stand out and often seem intentionally or unintentionally amusing.

I would get that. I think it's hilarious when he does that.

More people wish for Trump's death than any other person on the planet and he just keep rolling along. He is kind of amazing when you consider he volunteered for all of this.
