Union and Confederate soldiers used to cross lines and meet at each other’s campfires and fellowship. Sharing coffee and such. Then they would go against each other with bayonets and canons the next morning.
Due respect for one’s sincere ideological opponents is a good thing. Generally, a compromise between polar extremes, if possible, is the wiser option. Assuming one’s Opponents are willing and honest. Otherwise it’s the historical norm of brute force.
