If it’s BS, and “everyone knows” it’s BS, then it isn’t a negotiation tactic. Who will change their position based upon a known BS statement? Oil, pharmaceuticals, timber, steel, and a million other things are about to get “Trumpflation” of between 10% and 25%. And every person living in America is going to have to pay.

Should I fill the chest freezer this weekend? I just told the wife it’d probably be a good idea to stock up this weekend in anticipation of higher prices, even if it’s temporary

Not exactly.
What if the current price of Colombian coffee is $0.75 per pound and the current price of Brazilian coffee is $0.95 per pound.
But that is not the case. Brazilian is generally less expensive.

Or the Brazilians bump up the price due to demand vs scarcity.
That would not be a wise move on their part. They could dramatically increase market share by keeping the price low.

If tweet fails to load, click here. should there be tariffs on packages shipped from china?Posted on 2/2/25 at 8:07 am to TigersHuskers
A question arises. If a tariff on Canadian maple syrup raises their already expensive product for consumers, how will the increased demand for already not cheap Vermont maple syrup not cause a supply/demand retail price hike/bump for consumers as well?
Simplest fix is to not buy any maple syrup. Cane syrup a good alternative.

Price increases are good for Americans?
So why does every country we out tariffs on respond by… putting tariffs on.
If its solely a tax on your own people, why would other countries respond to us taxing americans by taxing their own people?
Think real hard on this one, you can do it!

Just want to bring back this thread from last week, when all the skyscreaming over the tariffs. I stated the below, which, as i stated, came true.
And a direct response from Kiwihead was...
quote:
Trump's tariff on Mexico and Canada WILL WORK.
They will acquiesce to our demands, and it will happen very soon (my money is by next Friday). You can bitch about Trump all you want, but this will go exactly the way Columbia did.
We can all watch this unfold in real time and see the exact same replies and reactions when the Columbian tariffs were announced.
And a direct response from Kiwihead was...

You live in an economic fantasy land .

And now Canada has capitulated.

Was saying similar.
Not surprising that those most vocally against tariffs are completely absent today.
Anyone above a room temp IQ knew this was nothing more than using leverage that Mexico/Canada could not withstand.
