I can’t seem to find his specific plans for the Parish other than wide brush strokes. Does anyone have his details?

Easy, he wasn’t Pat Brister.

Too many times politicians think they are our saviors and need to be re-elected when in fact they are in it for themselves and the power. It takes about 2 or 3 terms to realize this.

That is how crappy candidates can still get elected with no plans or ideas.

For some custodial offices like Sheriff, Clerk of Court, DA, etc. this rule may not apply as once someone is elected to those positions they will get re-elected until either a scandal or they resign or not run again.

I agree. But I’m still interested in his specific plans moving forward now that he’s elected.

I wonder if he has any plans to help the Medline situation that so many residents are pissed about.

My guess is:

Mike will ease into office and evaluate every department. He will make policy changes and personel changes that fit his on-hands approach of governing.

His nature is to "try to do more with what you have."

He will not be seeking publicity through glam-projects (which one could infer from "what are his 'plans' ?" -- not saying that's what OP meant.

All leaders in the Parish know that population growth has far outstripped infrastructure. Most residents don't know that community leaders formulated a plan in '98,'99 (New Directions 2025) based on growth projections for 2025. Unfortunately, no one told us about Katrina, a diaspora from New Orleans (and now from Baton Rouge).

Mike knows traffic and drainage are the biggest detriments to our quality of life, and he will eventually focus on those. Specific plans are a function of funding i.e. state / federal dollar matches.

Ironically, I write this from my office desk, which one year ago was his office desk ... and when I was young man, his father's desk. Actually, it's kind of cool.

Thats cool about the desk. Nice.
And it seems like you have a pretty good grasp of the type of person he is and how he sets out to accomplish agendas. I hope you’re right and I hope he lists out some items that we can all expect to see in the near and distant future. St. Tammany is a great place but it’s definitely being overwhelmed and needs to be properly planned. The flight out of the two major cities happened because people were looking for a nice, safe place to live and raise families. The giant medline project will certainly impact our traffic, congestion, and roads that are already under duress. These are the items he ran on and I’m curious as to what he plans to do about this project as well as others. Hope to hear something soon

Why are some people mad about that?

It runs directly behind a residential section and have plans for several hundred 18-wheelers every day clogging up an already stressed Hwy 21 exit. IT IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN.

This is a link to the NOLA article that explains it. And I’m one of those residents. There are plenty of places along I-12 with wide open spaces and zero neighborhoods, yet they want to put this giant distribution center that will see 177 18-wheelers every day down the same streets we bring our kids to school on in a small town.

I will read the article a bit later.

Where will the entrance be located? Is it off of Ochsner?

This is not the place for more distribution trucks.

After reading the article, I'm still on the fence. This should probably be it's own thread.

I see the business benefits, tax opportunities, and jobs.

I also see the problems from traffic, noise, and inconvenient.

I'm also torn about homeowners crying about something being built next to them. I don't have a say if someone builds next to my property, so why should a subdivision get to cry about who builds next to them?

If they use Exit 59 (HWY 21 / I-12) or the 1077 exit for that, then we are fricked. That exit is FUBAR most of the day as it is.

I agree w that. The only benefits I see are additional tax dollars, additional money to the local FD, and additional jobs.

I agree, the extra traffic is not worth it, and truckers generally drive like they DGAF.

I get that subdivision owners are mad, but I don't get a vote or a FB revolt if a greedy developer decides to build whatever behind my property.

It's not like my opinion matters but I'm still undecided.

Not trolling, looking for a different POV

It really shouldn’t be left up to my opinion or yours. This is where elected officials should get experts to help them on how a distribution center this large with this many trucks on a daily basis will effect the roads, traffic, and neighboring areas.

Like I said, getting this business in the parish is great, but at this scale there needs to be a consensus that it’s good for both the business and the area of infrastructure.
