Garbage, armpit of a city. It's essentially Africa with skyscrapers. They deserve this.

Both of the incidents noted in the article are in the suburbs.

I saw and read some articles about it because I thought the same thing. Problem is when the cops arrive the person living there says they leased it. The person who owns it says bullshite. And the cops say it is a civil matter take it up with the courts.

For all the cops know it could be his house, he is an ex and you are trying to get them to throw him in jail for trespassing in his own home.

So, "it's my property" is now a solid defense for all B&E and trespassing charges?

And when the "civil" matter is concluded, do these squatters then face criminal charges?

I come home and find a squatter in my house, I’m not involving law enforcement. GTFO.

That's what I was thinking. Louisiana is a shoot the burglar state. Might not want to be in my house home boy.

How is breaking and entering a civil matter?

Yep. That should be how it is treated.

Squatters rights are some of the most fricked up laws in this country. Squatters are subhumans who deserve no rights.

In that particular case, the squatter produced a falsified lease and the cops then said she'd have to take him to court and get court orders for their removal before they could get involved. Then the local news aired the story and local police "expedited" the eviction because of the bad publicity.

There's also the inverse of this scam where the squatter is actually the victim. A scammer will find a vacant house for sale, advertise it for rent online, take somebody's deposit, first and last months rent, break in and change a lock, hand over the key to the new tenant and sign a lease. They move in. The true owner finds out one way or another and the tenants get tossed out on the street and lost their money to the scammer. That's why there's a civil element. People don't typically do title searches before signing a lease.
