I don't have to be a world class chef to know that the food served to me at a restaurant tastes bad or that the waiter is a moron.

Likewise, I don't have to be a gun owner, NRA member or mass shooting survivor to be able to discuss the 2nd amendment.

For those same reasons, I don't have to be a woman to have a legitimate interest in abortion.

I have also studied Plato’s dialogues. What I find even more interesting is how people tend to latch on to certain aspects of ancient philosopher’s conversations and twist them to conform to their own belief system.

Also, in your extensive studies, why don’t you tell me socrates’ thoughts on disarming the people in a republic?

Tell me about how he says that a “protector” comes along during the life cycle in a republic and tried to disarm the people for their safety. Then tell me about how he believes that the protector then becomes the tyrant of a disarmed people.

I didn’t see that part in your OP. Must have missed it.

why are the members of the board such conservatives but yet stray away from the thinking of the founding fathers who were insanely smart.

In what ways?

People are deeply invested in what a woman should do with her baby and other issues that you claim that people are involving themselves in that have nothing to do with them because government is using taxpayer money to fund and support these issues.

And when we are extorted for tax money to pay for things we do not believe in that makes us deeply invested in those issues.

the vast majority of the American public has absolutely not a single clue as to what war, combat, and foreign policy in general really is like, yet civilian command over the military is a perfectly desirable outcome and something which we have held dear for more than two centuries. How is that any different?

Good point - but our civilian control involves how and why to use the military, not in how to achieve the goal (or should be that way.)

We do not want an independent military - it must be used only at the discretion of the civilian authorities to accomplish goals they set. Once goals and parameters are settled, the civilians should back away an allow the military to do its job.

The OP is too naive and uninspiring to waste time with extensive analysis.

But I would like to add that you can rid a nation of a tyrant with a single bullet, no so with democracy.
