Shutdown’s effect on 2020

The shutdown over the wall funding is front and center. It’s taking up a ton of air time when democratic presidential hopefuls are trying to get attention and traction.

In addition, these candidates will have to propose their solution to the shutdown and take a stand. The line has been clearly drawn. Most candidates want to set the tone, lay out their own agenda, and stay above the fray. Now they’re going to have to engage on Trump’s terms. It’s beautiful.

This will be especially tough for a guy like Beto who just wants to talk in generalities about hot fudge sundaes and rainbows. Announcing his run for President in the midst of this surely isn’t the environment he wants.

The media has this framed as Trump vs Pelosi, and it’s not nearly as focused as it would be on the parade of democrats who want to simply say “orange man bad.”
