I'm open to being convinced. Just defining my starting point. I certainly would not try to shout you down if you tried to convince me. And I would not advocate it should be banned until I did more research on it.

I just think it bodes ill.

Yep, and it was relevent to do so. The reason for its existence is not.

Questions?

I bet you think all the kids out in the world are exactly the same don't you?

Some have issues. Didn't know if you knew that. Some even kill people. Did you know that?

And I don't think anyone said anything about banning anything. I know that word scares the frick out of you though. shite your pants when you read it? Tell me the truth.

Would you require a "scientific study" to convince you that allowing drag races on city streets during rush hour would be a really bad idea?
We already have plenty of studies about automobile and driving safety. It's very concrete stuff.

I have my PhD in psychology, which just means I'm an expert in knowing that we don't know much about psychology, and it's anything but concrete and logical.

the ESRB is so stupid though

Yeah, it doesn't work.. Especially if the parents just buy them the games. Some kids handle things better than others. I'm guessing some kids can be affected by games and videos, but certainly a small percentage.

My 14 year old and I play the FarCry series. Very violent and more immersive than CS. Pretty fun. I want him to get the most real feeling of killing as possible.

I guess it's kinda like doing drills with the militia.

But we do actually play that game.

Nope, I simply don't think it's my burden to fix them at a cost that's greater than the benefit. I also don't think you can legislate behavior into everyone. It's beyond ignorant to pretend that video games are the problem. How do you suppose these kids get access to this stuff?

You're looking in all the wrong places to find blame. Use your head. It's not a difficult problem.

Yep, it's pointless. So is this discussion. We aren't going to ban these games and parents won't stop buying them for their kids. They either don't know any better or they don't care. Start with that if you want to find solutions.

How many people wear their seat belts now compared to before it was required by law?

Lots and lots more. That's legislative behavior.

I think there are many, many areas of blame. Most are slight but may act in correlation to produce a troubled individual if that individual is so predisposed.

...not everyone.

Seatbelts isn't the battle you want to pick anyway.

Obviously, and the availability of certain video games is not one of them.

touche.

I am only pointing out that the concept I have heard in this thread (which represents my total knowledge base on the topic) puts me in the 'sounds stupid' column. And I am not motivated enough to research it myself.

If I had to vote right now, I'd vote against it. That's because I think there are troubled mentalities and weak characters out there who could become desensitized and motivated to commit real-world violence.

Oh you're saying not everyone follows the law? WOW BREAKING NEWS!

More people began wearing seatbelts because a law was passed.
