A major part of why we enjoy a great economy relative to the rest of the world is because we have a hegemony. If you’re willing to give up 10-50% of your income and a dramatically reduced annual rate of return in stocks then sure. The US has enjoyed unparalleled global market access and control of the defacto world reserve currency. You take that away and we are no better than post WW2 UK with a bigger population and more domestic resources.

I don’t see why we can’t all come together and agree to give the liberals the north and we keep our southern half. It would be agreed that the north embraces progressivism and the south would embrace conservatism. If a person living in their section of the country did not want to embrace that sort of ideology then they could simply move.
It wouldn’t be much of a republic but it would probably work better for those of us with a brain.
