Reagan? A liberal? Reagan was a Democrat back when the Democrats believed in a strong military, fiscal responsibility, anti-trust, etc. They also believed in civil rights and a rebalancing of labor/management towards labor to give them a fighting chance against being exploited. That was liberalism back then, but today these things are accepted by almost everyone.

When the Democrat Party lurched leftward with The Great Society Reagan left it to become a Republican saying, “I didn’t leave the Democrat Party; it left me.”
