I bet those same people are protesting Trump sending national guard to states. We lost states rights when the south lost the war. But all they see is it was fought over slavery.

Same reason I don’t feel bad about Crusades

The U.S. Federal Government has turned into an unfathomable monster of wasteful rot and spending.
They are all two sides to the same coin. To pretend one would have done differently is wishful thinking

I agree. I would never hold anyone responsible nowadays for what occurred.
I guess it’s tough to be a proud people and have your history (the south) be inextricably connected to such evil.
So it becomes “our southern ways” and stars and bars, and god, and peach pie and our freedom and the big bad northern aggressors.
I guess I do understand it but it’s such a disconnect from reality that I have trouble keeping my mouth shut on the topic.
You make one hell of an argument for no culture to ever be proud. Various native American tribes did horrific things, but do we tell them to not have pride? I'm not even southern, but I'm irritated that everyone has to feel shame at all times.

My family owned a sugar plantation. We have never been compensated for the slaves our ancestors purchased legally, which were then taken from them by executive order. So no, I don't feel any guilt about the Civil War.
