Reality: 1944 vs. 2017

As seen on Instagram: In 1944 18-year olds were storming the beaches of Normandy to almost certain death. In 2017 18-year olds need safe spaces because words hurt their feelings.

ARMY SIZE IN 1945
"In 1941, the Army Air Corps had just 152,125 personnel. The AAF grew to a peak of over 2.4 million personnel and approximately 80,000 aircraft in 1944."
"In the summer of 1943 the decision was made to build the Army to an effective strength of 7.7 million personnel. By 1945, operating strength reached 8.3 million. But only 2.75 million, or a third, were in the AGF. About 1,200,000 personnel were assigned to divisions and 1,500,000 to non-divisional units. Non-divisional forces included service units and some additional combat troops not initially assigned to a division."
So add the Army Air Force number and add to the portion of the Army in the AGF and that is 5.15 million people.
The population in 1945 was 140 million.
The population in 2017 is 325 million. To have the same percentage of the population in the military today would require about 12 million people.
No fricking way you could find 12 million people of the proper age today that are worth a shite.
The US military has 2.3 million people including reservists in the military today.

If the country were actually in peril, I have zero doubt that millions of 18-year-olds would answer that call in defense of our nation.
The fact is, none of the wars we have fought since World War 2 threatened our nation.
The Japanese went to war with us in 1941 on the SAME MISTAKEN BELIEF you just shared. That Americans would never sacrifice because we are soft. And they would drive us to the negotiation table quickly.
They were wrong then, and you are wrong now.
