Questioning by Senators of managers/counsel in impeachment hearings

From what I gathered, this is one of the steps that will happen at some point next week, right?
My question is are they only able to ask about evidence presented by the managers/counsel? Or are GOP senators going to be able to specifically ask Adam Schiff questions about his shady dealings in all of this?

only able to ask about evidence
This will simplify things and should take about 10 seconds

And do they actually ask live?

The answer to that is MAYBE.
After opening statements are delivered by both sides (which should end Tuesday evening), Senators will then start to introduce motions and deliberate on them, which could include any number of things:
1) Calling witnesses (and who would be called)
2) Introducing new evidence
3) Motion to dismiss without any additional witnesses/evidence
4) Other stuff (not sure what that might be, but I'm sure there are other things they can bring up)
ETA:
I don't think so... think of the house managers as prosecutors and white house lawyers as criminal defense attorneys. The attorneys themselves don't testify/answer questions. So I do not believe the house managers will be questioned under oath. They would only be able to present evidence and "explain" it, or question witnesses brought forward. Someone who is an attorney/constitutional law expert may be able to answer that better than I.

All the questions are submitted to John Roberts. He, and he alone, will decide which questions have merit, pertain to the evidence on-hand, and are not fishing questions.
In other words, it would probably be okay for a question by Republicans to ask the House Managers to specifically address to the American people the constitutional basis of the charge, "obstruction of Congress", and then to also ask that the Defense Team's Alan Dershowitz respond to their reply.
Conversely, I can't see Roberts advancing or acknowledging a Dem question such as, "Can we see documents that the President has clained Executive Privilege over?"
