What about the 50 + year old people who have paid all the taxes for 30-40 years now and are scraping by worried that they will get laid off and not be able to make it to retirement?

People should have things they can’t afford . Instead of paying them to bread just give their kids to someone who can raise them . If the people really cared about their kids then they would have more then they can afford.
