Having worked in TV news, radio news and at a newspaper, I can tell you that polls are not used to REFLECT public opinion but to shape it.
There are many polls that are never published because the results are not what the media outlet wanted to see.
Now, if they are published with unexpected results, those results are usually downplayed and the spin will literally make you dizzy.
