Parents of transgender youth are suing to block Georgia's gender-affirming care ban
ATLANTA (AP) — Parents of four transgender children have filed a lawsuit challenging a Georgia law set to take effect Saturday that bans most gender-affirming surgeries and hormone replacement therapies for transgender people under 18.
The lawsuit, which was filed Thursday night, asks a judge to immediately prevent enforcement of the law while the legal challenge plays out.
The law passed along party lines this year by the Republican-majority General Assembly and signed by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp was hotly contested, with Democrats, parents and medical providers making impassioned arguments against it. Georgia is one of at least 20 states that have enacted laws that restrict or ban gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, with most currently facing lawsuits.
The Georgia law, Senate Bill 140, does allow doctors to prescribe puberty-blocking medications, and it allows minors who are already receiving hormone therapy to continue.
Supporters argue the law will prevent children from making decisions they could later regret.
But opponents say it will have devastating effects on young people, who are making decisions under parental and medical supervision. They argue the law further marginalizes people who are already prone to taking their own lives at disturbingly high rates.

If this was truly about the child they would go to one of the crazy states that allow it.

I would argue we should allow children and parents to assent to “gender-affirming care” with the caveat that once the children become adults, should they become unhappy with their childhood decisions, they are then legally allowed to cut off the genitalia of their parents.

This isn't critical medical care.
We aren't talking about the need for a court ruling to continue or cease life support, for example.
Can the parents of these emotionally unstable children not wait a few years until the child reaches adulthood to permanently disfigure their kids?

So you’d rather have the government make parenting decisions than a parent?? Weird how now you’re ok with the government telling people what to do.
Per the national library of medicine around 1% of people who receive gender affirming care regret the decision at some point. Does that mean they shouldn’t get it?
17% of people regret knee surgery
35% of people regret breast augmentation
Should we outlaw those surgeries as well?
Not to mention, it’s extremely rare that a minor gets reassignment surgery, over 99% is hormonal treatment/puberty blockers which are easily reversible.
These are children looking for help to feel themselves, not a political object. Grow the frick up.

I have read medical journals that say this simply isn’t true. We don’t know if the hormones are reversible. That’s the problem. They just recently started giving them out like candy to children.

You need to check again skippy, they certainly cannot.
The minimum age requirement in the state of Georgia is 18 years old. This means that no one under this age can get a tattoo, regardless of parental consent. There are a few states that will allow tattoos for minors if they have parental permission, but Georgia is not one of them.

We do know that pre-adolescent males who get started on puberty blockers will almost certainly not achieve orgasm as an adult. I think that’s a pretty clear evidence that it’s not “reversible” in any meaningful sense.

This is alarmist bull shite. The only instances where surgical gender affirming care is provided to people under 16 is in the case of hermaphroditism.

if powerful drugs, hormones, and surgery are necessary for you to be "yourself" then you have much larger mental issues that aren't being addressed
