And that's the key. The vast, vast, VAST majority of times a hard drive dies, people aren't going to do this as it's cost prohibitive. Per IRS documentation, Outlook's archiving is not considered adequate for saving work-related emails so they are supposed to be printed out and stored (probably with instances like this in mind).

Where are those hard copies?
