Set aside a SCHOOL playing in another conference and look at PLAYERS.

They aren’t a southern school though, so I say no.

this sounds like the perfect year to do temporary regional conferences of teams willing to play (probably 4) do a round robin schedule of each conference and then have a 4 team playoff.

Is there not an implicit contract between the NCAA and student athletes, to the effect that the NCAA will prepare them for NFL opportunities?
Bingo.

How would the NCAA go about preparing all players in the NCAA for NFL opportunities?

Do you really think coaches and recruiters don't point to the number of NFL players from that school and say, "We will prepare you for the NFL."?

As SFP stated, "implicit contract"

I know they do, but they are coaches and recruiters employed by the schools. How does the NCAA go about preparing all players in the NCAA for opportunities in the NFL? That is the job of the coaches, not the NCAA. The NCAA has nothing to do with preparing the players

Between the player and the school

You have to be a special kind of dumb to think hanks post made a good point.

I think this has already been pointed out but the “contract” between universities is expenses paid in exchange for playing football. Preparing them to play professionally is neither stated in, nor implied by the contract
