A non-US citizen who entered the US on a B-2 visa killed one person and injured five more in a wrong way crash in Southern California on Monday evening.
A B-2 visa is for foreign nationals entering the US for vacation, visiting family or medical treatment. Before leaving office, Joe Biden announced an increase in B-2 visas for fiscal year 2025.
The driver, Jorge Delgado, was driving a BMW at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the road on Main Street near Warner Avenue when he caused a deadly collision.
Jorge Delgado slammed into a black Honda and the Honda crashed into a white Toyota.
Delgado and the driver of the black Honda died in the crash. Five others, including a baby were injured.
“Just given the fact that he was driving at such a high rate of speed for so long, we don’t quite think that it was by accident,” Santa Ana Police Department Officer Natalie Garcia said, according to KTLA. “He’s a suspect in this investigation. He’s passed away now, but factors such as alcohol or drugs [remain under investigation].”
The drivers of the BMW and the Honda were killed, while five others in the Toyota — including a 1-year-old — were hurt. Neither the baby nor the other four, ages 39, 19, 18 and 11, sustained life-threatening injuries.
A fourth vehicle was also involved, but the driver of that vehicle was not hurt, police said.
According to Fox News, the driver of the vehicle identified as Jorge Delgado is a non-US citizen from Ecuador who entered the US on a B-2 visa.
Per Fox News:
Federal sources tell me the wrong-way driver from Monday’s fatal crash in Santa Ana, CA was a non-US citizen from Ecuador.
According to sources, Jorge Delgado (29) lawfully entered the United States on April 23, 2025 as a nonimmigrant visitor for pleasure on a B-2 visa.
