If the dog does anything other sit silently, they are justified in killing it.

America is dead if you can't kill a dog.

Technically, this also means if they end up at your home by accident, and your dog reacts to them in your back yard, they can kill it.

The ruling is regarding the police shooting your dog. Not you shooting your own dog.

So, they can shoot your dog, but you can't shoot theirs.

This is nonsense. I hope they appeal further.

If the police aren't at your house because you are an idiot, they can't kill your dog.

Everything else is an outlier and departments should be required to provide a replacement for unjustified pet shootings.

I'm actually OK with this as long as it is just the Pitts they probably encounter frequently.

If the penalty for shooting a police dog is the same as shooting a police officer, then shouldn't the same requirements for a police officer shooting me be applied to shooting my dog? That is, shouldn't the officer be constrained by the same protocols?

This is bullshite!

Shoot at my dog... expect return fire!

I doubt I ever have police show up at my property, but if I do and they fire at me or my dog, Corpus Christi says hello.

He told them he had a key, and that they didn’t need to destroy the front door to gain entry into the home. But destroy it they did.

The Browns dispute the claims by police that the dogs were barking. Mark Brown even testified the smaller of the two dogs had “never barked a day in her life.” Officer Klein said the larger dog was barking and “lunged” at him, but later admitted the pet “had only moved a few inches.”

Despite there being no attack, Klein fired a round at the dog. Both dogs ran away from the officers to the basement, obviously fleeing in fear. There, the two dogs were shot and killed by the officers who felt that they could not properly clear the room and effectively execute the search warrant on the home, explaining they “did not feel [the officers] could safely clear the basement with those dogs down there.”

frick these cops!

I'll support the blue line as much as anyone, but these assholes took it too far.

An a-hole dog that is big enough to cause harm to cops responding to a call and acting aggressively is a problem, though, right?

I'll let you in on a little secret:

People that have large, angry and poorly trained dogs are the types of people that might have the cops called to their house,

If an Officer cannot discern and articulate when to shoot a dog and when not to shoot they likely do not need to be making choices on when to deprive someone of there freedom either. Having said that, a search warrant for an alleged heroin den with pitbulls isn't where I would want to fight this fight.

After my parents, siblings and a few close friends, my dogs follow closely on my affections list. Shoot one of my dogs and I may temporarily lose my mind and I won't care if the shooter is wearing an uniform.

Very few dogs will sit passively while a stranger comes onto their property. This is a stupid ruling.
