There might not really be a point in fighting this anymore - the return of Alta-California I suppose is inevetible. Mexico is absorbed into the US.

Hell, California and Texas are basically Mexico now.

The only thing I've found that argues the cost could be offset is from the center for immigration studies which says:

But even they bring up the fact that most overstay visas. And as you said previously, the the number of illegal immigrants is decreasing.

Over what period of time? That tweet is almost certainly bullshite. I hate when Trump tweets this kind of ridiculous shite out. It makes him look stupid or makes me think he believes WE'RE stupid. Either way, it's counterproductive.

Do people really think every illegal alien in the US is on welfare? What are welfare benefits worth on an annual basis?

$18 billion would pay all of the ~325 million people in America about $55,000 per year. I don't think welfare pays $55 grand a year and I'm positive every person in America isn't on welfare. But what I am positive of is that Trump will try to spin his tweet into "proof" that Mexico is paying for his big, beautiful wall.
