Bernie is a true believer. I can respect that. What he believes is total evil vile shite, but he does truly believe in it.

Bernie is crazy like a fox. I wish I was smart enough to convince others to sacrifice so I could live like a king.

Didn't say they weren't, but in the case of Marxist socialism, being a leader means you get to tell other people how much they're going to do without. If you're a good leader, they won't see the lavish lifestyle you personally lead, in contrast to what you've imposed on others.
Deblasio hasn't been good at hiding that. He's openly greedy for revenue and doesn't hide any personal luxuries.

He’s definitely learned a lot since that hippie commune kicked him out for being too lazy back in the 70s. He’s figured out that you can be lazy and get ahead if you’re smart about it.
In that certain sense, he was George Costanza ahead of his time.
