Great news!

However, this growth is being accompanied by some of the most severe supply chain bottlenecks seen in the near-two-decade survey history if the pandemic is excluded, with companies also reporting increasing problems finding suitable staff. Backlogs of work are consequently rising sharply. While this accumulation of uncompleted orders bodes well for the further expansion of output and capacity in the coming months, it also indicates that companies are developing more pricing power, and hence is a worry for the inflation outlook.

Firms’ input costs have meanwhile jumped in September at the steepest rate for four years, with fuel and transport costs spiking higher thanks to the rise in oil prices seen during the month, which will add further to the upward pressure on selling prices and inflation in the coming months.

The survey's gauge of prices paid by businesses for inputs jumped to ?66.4, the highest ?reading since October 2022, from 59.9 in August. Both services and manufacturing businesses reported higher input prices. S&P Global noted that high raw materials prices in manufacturing were also often linked to supply shortages. It said suppliers' delivery times lengthened considerably on average, "with the incidence of supply chain delays ?the most ?widespread since July 2022.

Some posters are losing the plot. Manufacturing went up because Trump tariffed countries. This brought many companies back to US and caused others to increase investments and expansion in US manufacturing.
Even if some of the tariffs are now gone, the moves and investments already happened.
And its not just about the manufacturing increase - what we never saw was the continued manufacturing decrease had leftist commies stayed in oval office.
Trump has changed our fortunes via tariffs. And it worked regardless of what the leftist nut jobs proclaim. So the left will scream tariffs were struck down. Not all and Trump used other ways. But the real story is while the full tariffs were in effect, that brought manufacturing back.
US workers won. And Chyna lost. Much more work to do, but Trump got the ball moving in the right direction. And that will last years because once invested in, companies will build/expand and use those US plants to maximize bottom line. They won’t just pick them up once Trump is gone this is a long term win.

The data says otherwise. Manufacturing construction is down to about 40% of what it was in August of 2024.
Look I am all for good economic news, but to claim that this is solely the result of tariffs is silly.
Manufacturing output / productivity is up
Manufacturing wages are up
Manufacturing construction spends are down relative to peak 2024.
Manufacturing jobs are down
That tells me that a bunch of companies invested in automation and efficiency and we are seeing the benefits now.
