Florida AG Threatens Assault Charges Over WNBA Foul on Cunningham

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is threatening to pursue assault and battery charges against WNBA players over hard fouls, escalating the political battle surrounding the league and its policies on transgender athletes, The Hill reported Monday.
Uthmeier, a Republican, made the comments after Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham was on the receiving end of a hard foul during Saturday's game against the Chicago Sky.
Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected following the play. Carrington later posted on social media suggesting race played a role in the officiating decision.
Responding to a video of the incident, Uthmeier warned the WNBA that players could face criminal charges if similar incidents occur in Florida.
"The WNBA knows better than to play games down here in Florida, because I'll be charging people with assault," Uthmeier wrote on X.
