The strike likely hit Building 106A—53.217623, 50.303163. It is part of the Soyuz launch vehicle production complex. Building 106A operates in a high cleanroom class: here they assemble onboard electrical equipment, instruments, and printed circuit boards—essentially the "nervous system" of the launcher: the control system, wiring network, and instrument compartment. Without this stage, the rocket cannot be assembled, even when the body and tanks are ready.
Adjacent to it is also Building 106B, which serves as the final assembly building.
Such an object takes longer to restore than a standard production facility. Fire, soot, and firefighting water in a high cleanroom class space mean not just roof repairs, but requalification of clean zones, recertification of technological processes, and repeated dust contamination checks—months, not weeks. Add to that the sanctions loop: the onboard electronics of Soyuz vehicles rely on imported and supply-restricted component bases, which cannot be repurchased today.
The strategic weight of "Progress" lies in its uniqueness. It is the sole assembly point for the entire Soyuz-2 lineup, with which Russia launches and replenishes its military orbital grouping (Liana radio-technical reconnaissance and targeting, Persona/Razdol optical reconnaissance), as well as its own "Starlink"—the Dawn satellite internet from Bureau 1440, which is deployed exclusively using Soyuz-2.1b launchers. There is no duplication for this production.
The scale of the damage is being clarified based on satellite imagery.
