Collectivized farms featuring "equity" don't work. China had famines under Mao after the farms became communist collectives. When the people who work hard keep getting the same share as the slackers, soon nobody works hard.

After Mao in China, the state agriculture collectives were broken up and the land distributed to the farmers and their families. They got to keep and sell anything over their state quota in the marketplace. The famine ended that year.

quote:

Kim Jong-un told members of his ruling communist party Wednesday that North Korea’s agricultural sector had “failed” and that the “people’s food situation is now getting tense,” the latest in a series of similar warnings that the nation is on the brink of famine.

It's a shame that they haven't tried to cultivate trading partnerships outside of China and maybe a little elsewhere. Those kinds of relationships allow a country to get through hard times.

Also, expect a new nuclear missile test to try to leverage food aid in exchange for a reduction of hostilities.

These guys are so predictable.

I hate the kim regime.

I feel bad for the nork citizens though, when shite like this happens.

I kind of get why nk is desperately trying to build a nuke. If they can become a nuclear power, it would open up more paths for them. It would probably open up more trade partners. More trade partners means that not as many grocery stores will be empty. The citizens could potentially have more food that is easier to acquire.
