Just a couple TED Talks on Automation

Co-Director of MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy Andrew McAfee
MIT economist David Autor
Two marginally different perspectives on the same basic problem: employment automation. Autor argues the perspective that endless human ingenuity will ensure that we are always developing new jobs, even if we don’t what they will be as of today. McAfee has the slightly more pessimistic position that we will be seeing fewer and fewer things that look like jobs. Both discuss some of the challenges posed by our rapidly automating economy. Both end on their own version of an optimistic note.
Regardless of whether or not you currently hold a position in the automation debate, it’s an important one to at least be aware of. These two talks provide some good front-end info on the current situation and the challenges posed. Enjoy

I did not watch the videos but I can tell you automation is a real thing and it will affect more than just fast food workers. White collar desk jobs will be affected too. The low hanging fruit will be first, like AP clerks. Systems can already pull out invoices from emails, read them, process them and file them. Low level auditing is being automated and done in real time and performed on much larger populations. Things like title insurance could get replaced with block chain. It’s not skynet but I think a lot more people will be affected in the near future and not just the minimum wage crowd.
